Seleni Spotlight: Linos Muvhu, Past Seleni Scholarship Recipient
September 2020 - Linos Muvhu is a past scholarship recipient for Seleni’s Maternal Mental Health Intensive Clinical Training online courses. The scholarships support mental health professionals and students serving underserved populations.
Linos Muvhu is the Secretary and Chief Talent Team Leader of Society for Pre and Post Natal Services (SPANS) in Zimbabwe. SPANS promotes good mental health across the life course starting in the perinatal period. Linos is passionate about the rights of all people to enjoy good mental health, in particular the right for good family mental health and in 2016, he initiated the first ever International Conference on Maternal Mental Health in Africa (ICAMMHA).
What motivates you to work in the mental health field?
Being trained as a family therapist with Connect (Zimbabwe Institute of Systemic Family Therapy). I became very passionate about the rights of all people to enjoy good mental health, in particular the right for good family mental health.

What excites you most about being part of the Seleni community?
The Seleni Community addresses my passion for maternal mental health. It is a unique because it provides training services as well.
What was your favorite part of Seleni Maternal Mental Health Intensive Training?
The fact that it is offered online made it easily accessible without any challenges.
Working in mental health can be emotionally tiring. How do you practice self-care?
Playing my local music helps me deal with burnout and forgetting issues I’ve handled during professional counseling sessions.
What’s a quote that you carry with you to uplift yourself?
“Mental health is the same as physical health.”
