Introduction
As a Psychotherapist, I specialize in the treatment of anxiety, depression and women’s issues; treating individuals, couples and families. I graduated from Columbia University and then pursued post-graduate studies in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. I worked as a Primary Therapist at Four Winds Psychiatric Hospital in Katonah, New York providing clinical services to patients and families, including psychotherapy, family assessment, and crisis intervention.
Drawing upon over 20 years of experience as a licensed Psychotherapist, I am able to quickly identify the problem and steadily rebuild security and trust with my clients.
In 2002, I started a private psychotherapy practice in in Palm Beach, Florida which provided specialty clinical counseling in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorders, Divorce Adjustment, Work-Life Stress, Grief Counseling and Marital and Couples Counseling.
Since 2016, I have practiced in Rhode Island where I recently added Bioregulation treatment to my therapy practice. BRT is a unique approach to health and wellness that uses biofeedback and PEMF-based electromagnetic technology to help the body better self-regulate, adapt and heal naturally.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I was raised in New York, and received my graduate degree from Columbia. In my career I have benefitted from a wide range of practical experience, from hospital in-patient services to private practices in Florida and Rhode Island.
As an early adopter of teletherapy, utilizing both audio and video technologies, I have expanded my practice in the four states where I am licensed; New York, Florida, Connecticut and Rhode Island. The ability to communicate with, and treat patients from their homes has brought me into a contact with a wider demographic and diverse population than I might have otherwise serviced in a traditional office-based practice.
With the pandemic, this sector of my practice has become more important and has proven to be a critical support mechanism for many of my clients.
What is your favorite podcast?
I particularly like Brene Brown’s podcasts due to the unique perspective that she brings to life challenges. Some of her best quoted wisdom on ‘joy’ is, "When we lose our capacity for vulnerability, joy becomes foreboding. It becomes scary to let ourselves feel it."
How do you practice self-care?
Morning walks at the beach with my dog, Daisy, help me to collect my thoughts before the day begins. Practicing mindfulness has always been a mainstay for me.
What is your favorite thing to do to wind down the day?
The end of the day is family time. Cooking together is often the best way to wind down and to re-connect with loved ones.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
My grandmother advised me that when you know who you are, you can be wise about your goals, your convictions, your dreams. She said that knowing who you are enables you to live your life with meaning and purpose.
How has COVID impacted moms and families, and what can we do to better support them during this time?
During this trying time, it is important for therapists to recognize the increased burden that the pandemic has placed upon mothers; and especially working mothers. We can offer working moms coping strategies and by using teletherapy, we can deliver our services directly to them in their homes in a way that does not conflict with their demanding schedules.
What are your specialty/focus areas? Why do you find these areas particularly important?
Anxiety, particularly in the age of Covid, has been a focus of my practice. The treatment modalities for anxiety have evolved over time and I have recently expanded my practice to be able to offer clients bioregulation therapy or BRT. The way that it works is that our computer reads the electrical impulses (frequencies) being emitted by the cells in the body. It filters out the disharmonic “unhealthy” vibrations that interfere with optimal cell communication while amplifying the “healthy” harmonic frequencies, and then sends them back to the cells to “invigorate” and encourage them to function the way they are supposed to. Once the cells are doing their jobs better, the nervous system calms down, and pain or other disruptive signals diminish. All the client has to do is recline and relax on a comfortable chair when I make a house call; or in our private BRT therapy room. Our computer does the rest. They feel nothing but relaxation during their therapy.
What excites you most about being part of the Seleni family?
Seleni’s focus on women’s issues and families is what originally attracted me to this practice. The holistic approach which Seleni offers to its clients is very appealing and has proven effective for couples, families and individuals.
