Seleni Partners with Spring Ob/Gyn

NEW YORK – June 2020  In partnership with Spring Ob/Gyn, Dr. Christiane Manzella, a Senior Psychologist at Seleni, will lead the class, "Is it Baby Blues or PPD?" to help individuals better understand Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs). The first class is scheduled for August 7 from 6:15-7:45pm and will take place virtually via Zoom. Each class is $200 per couple, and while held virtually, there will be a 15% discount.

This one-time 90-min class will be offered every month and is designed for new parents and expecting new parents. It educates families about the difference between baby blues and PMAD before, during and after pregnancy. The course discusses postpartum depression and anxiety by examining the physiological and social components that shape these conditions. In addition, we will learn the basic diagnostic criteria and guidelines to assess someone going through the baby blues or experiences the beginning of a PMAD.

Topics include:

  • Understanding the various ways that the physical, emotional, and social changes influence the experience of pregnancy and new parenthood

  • Discussing the risk factors related to perinatal emotional distress or developing a PMAD

  • Identifying whether you, or your loved ones, are experiencing the baby blues or the beginning of postpartum depression or anxiety.

  • Learning coping strategies when dealing with baby blues

Dr. Christiane Manzella is a Senior Psychologist at the Seleni Institute. Dr. Manzella earned both a master's degree in Clinical Psychology and doctorate in Counseling Psychology from New York University. Dr. Manzella has extensive experience as a clinician, administrator, and professor of psychology, and has been in practice for more than 20 years.
